RIYADH — Saudi Arabia’s King Salman has directed urgent humanitarian and medical aid to be sent to the victims of the deadly earthquake that struck the Aegean Sea last week, causing severe damage to the western Turkish city of Izmir, according to a statement carried by Saudi Press Agency on Friday.

The aid will be sent through the King Salman Relief Center, Saudi Arabia’s charity arm, the statement added.

The aid is out of King Salman’s keenness to stand by the Turkish people and mitigate the effects of the earthquake that caused heavy losses of lives and property, and an extension of the humanitarian role the Kingdom plays by standing with those affected by crises and catastrophes.

The death toll from the powerful earthquake in Turkey has risen to 116.
