Five more die of coronavirus as Kuwait sees surge in infections

KUWAIT CITY — Kuwait registered on Friday 825 new COVID-18 cases over the past 24 hours, taking the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 130,463, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health carried by state news agency KUNA.

The ministry also announced that five more patients died due to complications caused by the deadly virus, raising the total number of fatalities to 804.

According to the ministry’s spokesman Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad, there are currently 8,396 active cases in the country out of which 115 are receiving treatment in intensive care units.

A total of 7,526 tests were conducted over the past 24 hours, taking the total number of COVID-19 examinations in the country so far to 955,477, Dr. Al-Sanad said.

Earlier in the day, the ministry announced that a total of 699 more patients have recovered from COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 121,263. — SG
