JEDDAH —
A Greek Consulate official and a Saudi security man sustained minor injuries in a failed attack on a ceremony attended by diplomats in Jeddah on Wednesday morning.

Sultan Al-Dosari, spokesman of Makkah region emirate, said that the security authorities dealt with a failed and cowardly attack on Wednesday morning while the French consul was attending a ceremony in the Jeddah governorate.

The security authorities have launched a probe and are undertaking a security follow-up of the incident, he added.

The Khawajaat Cemetery, where the attack occurred, has been secured and the situation is fully under control, Okaz correspondent reported quoting security sources.

“We support Saudi authorities in their investigation and prosecution of the perpetrators of the attack,” a joint statement from the European and American consulates in Saudi Arabia said.

The consulates thanked brave Saudis who took the initiative to help all those who were at the site of the attack, the statement added.
