Bahrain's King Hamad names crown prince as new premier

MANAMA — Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa named Crown Prince Salman Al-Khalifa as the new prime minister on Wednesday, Bahrain News Agency (BNA) reported, citing a royal decree.

The decree takes effect immediately, the report added.

Crown Prince Salman Al-Khalifa replaces late Prime Minister Sheikh Khalifa Bin Salman Al-Khalifa, who died earlier on Wednesday in the United States.

Bahrain’s Royal Court announced a week of official mourning. "The burial ceremony will take place after the repatriation of the body, and the funeral will be limited to a number of relatives," BNA reported.
