RIYADH —
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Health recorded on Sunday 224 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, marking another low single-day number in nearly eight months since the outbreak of the pandemic in the Kingdom.

The Kingdom has reported less than 300 infections four times in a week with 286 recorded on Friday, 290 on Wednesday and 221 on Saturday.

Single-day coronavirus-related deaths over the past 24 hours touched 19, the statement added.

This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 355,258 and virus-related fatalities to 5,780.

The ministry also reported 489 new recoveries over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 343,371 with the recovery rate rising.

Riyadh recorded the highest number of daily infections with 51 cases followed by Yanbu with 21, Makkah with 19, and Madinah with 17 cases.

The remaining cases were detected in different cities and governorates across the Kingdom.

With the steady drop in the number of daily cases and the spike in recoveries, the active cases in the Kingdom also came down significantly with 6,107 reported on Sunday, and out of the total, 785 were critical cases. — SG
