UN chief leads global condemnation of Houthi missile attack on Saudi oil facility

RIYADH — The Iranian-backed terrorist Houthi militia on a fuel tank at a petroleum products distribution station in north Jeddah has drawn strong regional and international condemnation, with UN Secretary-General António Guterres leading from the front.

In a statement, the UN chief expressed concern over the terrorist attack by a projectile on a fuel tank at the petroleum products distribution terminal in the north of Jeddah.

He said that the continued attacks launched by the Houthi militia targeting civilian targets and infrastructure in Saudi Arabia violate international humanitarian law.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia's regional allies strongly denounced the attack, pledging their full support to the Kingdom.

In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) said that the United Arab Emirates condemns this terrorist act of sabotage, and considers it new evidence of the Houthi terrorist militia’s attempts to undermine security and stability in the region.

The ministry renewed its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia regarding these terrorist attacks, and its firm standing with the Kingdom against any threat to its security and stability. The ministry also reiterated the UAE's support for the Kingdom in all the measures it takes to preserve its security and the safety of its citizens and residents.

The statement emphasized that the security of the UAE and the security of Saudi Arabia are indivisible and that any threat or danger facing the Kingdom is considered by the Emirates as a threat to its security and stability system.

Bahrain has strongly denounced and condemned the terrorist attack.

Bahrain's foreign ministry in a statement stressed that this cowardly terrorist act targeting oil installations threatens the stability of energy supplies to the world and poses a grave danger to the global economy.

The ministry affirmed Bahrain’s solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its full support for all the measures it takes to safeguard its security and stability.

The ministry also stressed the need for the international community to take serious and strict steps to confront such terrorist acts of sabotage committed by the Houthi group that target civilian facilities and threaten the safety and security of innocent civilians.

Kuwait also expressed its condemnation of the terrorist attack in the strongest terms.

In a statement, the Kuwaiti foreign ministry said: "The persistence of such criminal and sinful acts against civilian lives and infrastructure as well as global energy supplies aims to destabilize Saudi Arabia and the entire region."

The ministry affirmed that the State of Kuwait fully stands with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and fully supports all measures it might take to protect its security and stability.

The ministry affirmed Kuwait’s complete stand with the Kingdom and its support in all measures it takes to preserve its security and stability.

Egypt confirmed its rejection and strong condemnation of such terrorist sabotage acts committed against vital installations, which threaten the Kingdom's security and the stability of energy supplies.

Egypt reaffirmed its solidarity with the government and people of Saudi Arabia. It also reaffirmed its stand with the Kingdom in all measures it takes to defend its lands, maintain its security and stability in the face of these heinous cowardly attacks, and in order to confront all forms of terrorism and its supporters.

Jordanian foreign ministry spokesperson Ambassador Dhaifallah Al-Fayez expressed his country's rejection of this cowardly terrorist attack and the Houthi militia’s continued targeting of civilian areas, which is a flagrant violation of international laws and norms.

Ambassador Al-Fayez affirmed that Jordan stands with Saudi Arabia, stressing that the security of the two countries is indivisible and that any threat to the security of the Kingdom is a threat to the security and stability of the entire region.

Pakistan has called for an immediate halt to such attacks that violate the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Saudi Arabia and threaten the lives of innocent civilians.

Pakistan's foreign ministry in a statement reaffirmed the country's full support and solidarity with the Kingdom against any threats to its security and territorial integrity.

Sudan expressed its denunciation of this criminal act which proved the Houthi militia's violations undermining security and stability in the region, according to a statement from the Sudanese foreign ministry.

France said that the attack targeting the civil infrastructure of Saudi Arabia is a violation of International law.

In a statement, the spokesperson of the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs said that the attack would undermine ongoing peace efforts, destabilize the security of the Kingdom and the stability of the region.

The spokesperson reiterated France's support for the efforts being exerted by UN Secretary-General's special envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths to reach a comprehensive political agreement in Yemen.

The statement added that Sudan expressed its confidence in the Kingdom's ability to protect its vital and economic facilities and firmly confront terrorist groups, affirming its full solidarity with the Kingdom in all its measures against anyone trying to undermine its security and stability.

The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in a statement affirmed its stand and solidarity with Saudi Arabia in all measures it takes to confront sabotage and terrorist acts against vital oil installations, which target the security and stability of energy supplies to the world.

Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Ahmed Aboul Gheit condemned the Iranian-backed terrorist Houthi militia targeting the petroleum products distribution terminal in the north of Jeddah.

In a statement on Tuesday, Aboul Gheit called the attack an act of terrorism that is condemned and rejected by all.

Speaker of Arab Parliament Adel Abdurrahman Al-Assoumi has strongly condemned the cowardly attack.

In a statement on Monday, Al-Assoumi said that targeting of the petroleum products distribution terminal is a cowardly terrorist act. He added that it is part of a plan to target vital and economic facilities and affect energy supplies and oil prices in the global market.

Al-Assoumi called on the international community to take urgent action to confront these terrorist acts.

Al-Assoumi expressed his confidence in the Kingdom's ability to protect its vital and economic facilities and firmly confront terrorist groups. He affirmed the Arab Parliament’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its support in all measures it takes to protect its vital and economic facilities against whoever tries to undermine its security and stability.
