MANAMA — An Omani citizen failing to comply with home quarantine measures was handed a 20-day jail sentence and a fine of 500 Omani riyals (SR4,870 approximately) by a local court.

According to a report carried by the state news agency, ONA, on Tuesday, the primary court in the South Al Batinah Governorate issued a verdict convicting a suspect who breached the decisions of the Supreme Committee tasked with tackling developments resulting from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The offender was punished for removing the tracking bracelet aimed to sequester patients infected with the COVID-19 virus. The convict also failed to abide by the home quarantine prescribed to him, ONA reported.

The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the Sultanate till Tuesday stood at 122,579, while the number of recoveries reached 113,856, accounting for 92.9 percent.

Meanwhile, the total number of virus-related deaths stood at 1,391, according to a statement from the country’s health ministry. — SG
