Former Pakistani Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali passed away at a hospital in Rawalpindi at the age of 76 on Wednesday.

ISLAMABAD — Former Pakistani Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali passed away at a hospital in Rawalpindi at the age of 76 on Wednesday, local media reported.

Jamali was shifted to the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology & National Institute of Heart Diseases in the garrison city of Rawalpindi near Islamabad after suffering a heart attack last week.

For the last few days, he had been put on a ventilator in the critical care unit of the hospital.

Jamali served as the Pakistani premier from November 2002 until June 2004 during the tenure of ex-dictator Pervez Musharraf. He resigned over differences with Musharraf.

Jamali was born on Jan. 1, 1944, in Pakistan’s southwestern Baluchistan province and he served as the chief minister of the province three times.
