RABAT — Morocco's King Mohammed VI had a phone conversation on Friday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a statement from the Moroccan Royal Cabinet said.

The two leaders held official talks for the first time since the two countries decided to normalize relations earlier this month.

During the phone call, King Mohammed VI recalled the "strong and special links" between Morocco and the Jewish community, added the statement.

The phone call also served as an opportunity to reiterate Morocco’s "consistent, constant, and unchanged position" with regard to the Palestinian cause.

The king also reiterated Morocco’s determination to continue to promote peace and stability in the Middle East.

On Tuesday, Morocco and Israel signed a joint declaration with the United States in Morocco's capital Rabat that the two countries agree to immediately establish full diplomatic relations. — SG
