RIYADH —
Eng. Nabih Al-Barahim, member of the Shoura Council, called on the Ministry of Economy and Planning to carry out a comprehensive and detailed study on the impact of imposing fee on the dependents of expatriates in the Kingdom.

The study should consist of the facts and figures of the economic and social repercussions following imposition of the fee since July 2017, he said.

Taking part in the deliberations at the virtual session of the council on Tuesday, Al-Barahim also stressed the need to include in the study details of the excess number of foreign workers in the Kingdom’s employment market.

The economic and energy committee of the council called on the ministry to work on preparing a meaningful development plan for the non-profit sector.

On her part, Dr. Ayisha Zakri, a member, noted that the ministry’s report that was tabled at the council did not include strategic objectives for the advantage of all regions, noting that working on preparing development plans in all sectors would contribute to achieving the ministry’s goals and overcoming the difficulties they face.

During the session, the Council approved a number of recommendations that are included in the report of the education and scientific research committee regarding the annual report of the University Higher Education Fund.

The Council requested the Fund to follow up the collection of the sums owed to it by the universities.
