MANAMA — Bahrain’s Shura Council has condemned and denounced smear campaigns launched by some media channels, especially “Al-Jazeera”, against the kingdom’s reputation and status in the human rights fields.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Shura Council said the country is cohesive and united, under the leadership of King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, noting that the Bahraini people are highly aware and educated, and cannot be deceived by suspicious foreign media outlets that seek to sow sedition and undermine the nation’s security and stability.

The Shura Council affirmed that the Bahraini citizens are always dedicated to serving the kingdom’s security, stability, and comprehensive development, under its wise and just leadership.

The Bahraini parliamentary body emphasized that the Doha-based Al-Jazeera channel is taking advantage of the political and security challenges that the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries are going through during the current period in order to achieve goals aimed at spreading evil and harm to the countries and their people.

In this regard, the Council underlined the importance of countering such attempts by adherence to rationality and restraint, calling for avoiding tensions that would impede efforts aimed at achieving more unity, fraternity, and joint cooperation.

The council denounced the false and hostile allegations targeting Bahrain’s interior ministry, commending the landmark achievements of Bahrain’s security authorities, led by Interior Minister Gen. Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, and their remarkable efforts to maintain security and stability across the nation.

The council called on Bahrainis to continue their dedication in serving the nation-building and development march and to pay no heed to everything that may sow discord and spark division among the members of the one society.
