Bahrain thanks Oman for facilitating release of Al-Haddad, others from Qatari detention

MANAMA — Bahrain has thanked Oman for the release of Bahraini citizens detained by the Qatari authorities.

In a statement on Friday carried by the Bahrain News Agency, the foreign ministry said: "It expresses its profound thanks and gratitude to Oman for the efforts exerted by the competent authorities in the Sultanate to coordinate and follow up on the release of Bahraini citizens detained in Qatar and facilitate their return to Bahrain."

“The ministry considers the release of Bahraini citizens by the competent Qatari authorities a step that reflects the required spirit to complete addressing the pending issues between the two countries in order to enhance cooperation between the GCC states, hoping for the release of the Asian sailors who work on Bahraini fishing vessels, in consideration of their humanitarian situation,” the ministry added in the statement.

Meanwhile, the three Bahraini citizens, Sami Ibrahim Al-Haddad, Mohammed Yussef Al-Dossari and sailor, Habib Abbas, who had been arrested by the Qatari Coastal and Border Security at sea arrived in Manama on Friday after their release by the Qatari authorities.

Upon arrival at the Bahrain International Airport, they were welcomed by the Muharraq Governor, Salman bin Hindi Al-Mannai, who conveyed to them greetings Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, as well as their congratulations on their safe return to the kingdom.

The three citizens extended deepest thanks and gratitude to the king and the crown prince for their interest and care, which contributed to their release.

They also praised the efforts exerted by the country’s interior ministry, led by Minister Gen. Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, to take all necessary procedures to ensure their safe return home.

They also paid tribute to the Foreign Ministry, led by Minister Dr. Abdullatif Al-Zayani, for its follow up on their case.

They also expressed pride in the patriotic supportive stances expressed by Bahraini citizens toward them.
