Saudi Gazette report

RIYADH — The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) has seized 11,620 items that violated creative rights as part of its efforts to protect and enforce intellectual property (IP) rights.

The seized items include electronics, computer programs, sound recordings, and printed works during the current month.

The SAIP in cooperation with the General Directorate of Public Security recently launched inspection campaigns in a number of regions of the Kingdom with the aim to rein in commercial stores and establishments that violate IP rights regulations.

The crackdown was launched after conducting preliminary surveys of the targeted areas and establishments that violate IP rights and works.

The SAIP also carried out a parallel campaign to monitor websites in order to verify the extent of their compliance with intellectual property systems and the violation of the rights. It has taken legal measures against violating websites and blocked them.

As part of the campaign, more than 355 websites were monitored, of which 77 were found to be violating intellectual property systems, and accordingly these sites were blocked.

The SAIP stressed that it will not be negligent in taking the necessary measures to penalize violators of the IP rights regulations, and called on citizens and residents to support its efforts.
