February 01, 2021

The Farasan Islands, located 50 km offshore from Jazan, are a coral archipelago in the Red Sea in the southwestern part of Saudi Arabia. The archipelago is a major tourist attraction and a favorite destination for tourists, visitors, researchers and lovers of diving and fishing due to the beauty of sandy beaches, nature and turquoise waters.

The Saudi Tourism Authority (STA), in cooperation with the National Center for Wildlife Development, has included the Farasan Islands reserve as part of the new experiences of the current Saudi Winter season.

Rich in biodiversity, the reserve is home to more than 230 species of fish, 50 species of coral, and many endangered marine wildlife. It is also home of herbs, marine algae, jellyfish and mangrove forests, which serves as incubators for young fish and crustaceans. — SPA
