ABU DHABI — Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan met on Sunday with his Spanish counterpart Arancha González Laya.

They discussed bilateral relations and ways to enhance them across various fields, including health, science, technology, artificial intelligence, economics, as well as logistics and trade.

They also reviewed the latest regional and international development, in addition to a number of issues of common concern.

Sheikh Abdullah and Laya also discussed the developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the two countries efforts in facing its repercussions on various levels.

The UAE and Spanish foreign ministers underlined the need to boost international efforts to ensure the delivery of the vaccine to all countries.

Earlier in the day, the two countries signed an agreement to step up cooperation in security fields and the exchange of expertise and information.

The agreement aims to boost the existing cooperation between the two countries in the areas of combating all forms of crime through the exchange of information, expertise and best practices put in place in the two countries.

It will also conduct benchmarking between the police agencies in the two countries in the areas of crime status and trends, the use of modern technologies in police work, as well as holding specialized meetings and conferences between them to intensify their cooperation. — SG
