RIYADH — Eight more mosques in Saudi Arabia were temporarily shut after worshipers tested positive for coronavirus, bringing the total number of mosques closed over the past five days to 52.

In a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency, Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance said that out of the total 52 mosques, 38 have been reopened after sterilizing them and taking all required measures to ensure the health and safety of worshipers.

According to the ministry, out of the eight mosques that were closed during field inspections, two are in the Jeddah governorate, a mosque in Al Qunfudhah in the Makkah region, two in the Riyadh region, a mosque in the Ahad Al Masarha governorate in the Jazan region, a mosque in the Nariyah governorate in the eastern region, and a mosque in the Rijal Almaa province of the Asir region.

The ministry again underlined the importance of adhering to precautionary measures and called on everyone to report any violations or laxity in implementing the precautionary measures approved by the competent authorities by calling the toll-free number 1933.
