KUWAIT CITY — The Kuwaiti parliament will hold an extraordinary session on Tuesday to discuss a motion regarding the government policy and measures in coping with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and its emerging strains, the parliament speaker announced on Sunday.
In a statement carried by the Kuwaiti News Agency (KUNA), Speaker Marzouq Ali Al-Ghanim indicated that there was coordination between the lawmakers who submitted the motion and the government, declaring that Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah notified him that the government would attend the special session.
He called on all lawmakers to undergo PCR swab tests on Monday in coordination with the National Assembly General Secretariat "so that everyone is able to attend the session."
Kuwait on Sunday reported 798 new COVID-19 cases and 5 virus-related deaths, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 177,701 and fatalities to 1,003.
