RIYADH — Saudi Arabia’s health ministry has dismissed reports of deaths and serious side effects of coronavirus vaccines, terming them as inaccurate and false.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Dr. Muhammad Al-Abdel Ali, the spokesman of the health ministry, reasserted that the vaccines have proven their efficiency and capability to protect individuals.

He also said the vaccination campaign will be expanded in the next stages to include all categories of the society and all regions of the Kingdom at an accelerated pace, calling on the elders, those who are sick with chronic diseases, and those who are over-obese to promptly register to obtain the vaccine.

Calling on people to continue adhering to coronavirus precautionary measures, Dr. Ali pointed out that the infection rate has come down recently.

He also dismissed reports linking the rise in cases to the virus' mutations, pointing out that a number of areas in the Kingdom are still monitoring the increase in confirmed cases as well as critical cases.

The spokesman called the current stage of the pandemic curve of the infections as sensitive, calling for much more attention.
