MANAMA —
Bahrain on Thursday has authorized the emergency use of Johnson and Johnson’s vaccine for coronavirus, the Bahrain News Agency reported on Thursday.

Janssen coronavirus vaccine is the fifth vaccine authorized in the Kingdom of Bahrain to be administered for emergency use to people most at risk to develop severe symptoms of COVID-19 if infected, like the elderly, people with chronic diseases and other categories determined by the Health Ministry.

Bahrain is already using the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, one manufactured by Chinese state-backed pharmaceutical giant Sinopharm, and the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine and the Russia’s Sputnik V.

The National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA) Chief Executive Dr. Meriam Adhbi Al Jalahma said an in-depth study has been conducted on all documents provided by the producing company on the clinical results of the vaccine, in light of the studies conducted in many countries.

The vaccine is given in one shot and provides a great protection against serious infection with COVID-19.
