Malaysian PM arrives in Jeddah on a 4-day visit

RIYADH — Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin arrived in Jeddah Saturday. On arrival at King Abdulaziz International Airport, he was received by Jeddah Governor Prince Mishaal Bin Majed, the Saudi Press Agency said.

The Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin will be paying a 4-day official visit to Saudi Arabia, starting Saturday till March 9, 2021, the Malaysian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

This visit, which is Muhyiddin’s first official visit to Riyadh since he took office on March 1 last year, aims to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries and bring them to a high level, including the setting up of a high-level strategic committee.

The visit is scheduled to witness talks to enhance trade and investment cooperation between the two countries, including in the oil, gas and renewable energy fields, as well as in Hajj and Umrah and the "Makkah Road" Initiative, in addition to strengthening efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Malaysian Foreign Ministry statement also referred to the Vision 2030 of the Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, deputy premier, and minister of defense, in giving a push to the “Riyadh-Kuala Lumpur” bilateral relations towards broader horizons, developing them, and enhancing cooperation and coordination in new areas, including modern technology and innovation sectors.

The visit also aims to achieve broader cooperation in developing smart cities and artificial intelligence technologies, in addition to discussing regional and international issues of common interest.
