Although the nighttime curfew in Cairo provides an opportunity for some Egyptians to practice their hobbies, Saudis in Cairo do not have much to do.

The curfew, imposed in the middle of August, is enforced from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., except on Friday when it runs from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Saudi Gazette interviewed a few Saudis living in Cairo who said they feel bored during the curfew period.

Ali Abdullah, a Saudi in his 30s and working in Cairo, said: “I spend the curfew in a gloomy mood since I spend my time stuck at home and I do not go out to avoid getting into an argument with the security forces.”

Hussain Siraj, a 29-year-old Saudi who works in Cairo, said: “I consider the period of the hours of the curfew a normal time since I live in Zamalek.

“I spend my time at home in watching news.

“The disadvantage of the curfew is that sometimes you cannot accomplish all your chores.”

Some Saudis gain more weight because of the curfew.

Amira Sulaiman, a 33-year-old married Saudi employee in Cairo, said: “I spend the curfew at home watching TV and eating constantly.”

Saudis also say that they learned many things from this curfew, including patience and punctuality.

Hussain Humoomd Mohammed, a Saudi employee in his thirties, said: “Because of this experience I learned to be patient.

“This experience taught me to be committed to appointments and not be late and take care and be wary of the situation at any time.”

Living in a state of emergency is a new experience for most Saudis in Egypt.

Fatima Abdullah, a 28-year-old Saudi female living in Cairo, said: “I stay at home and watch TV during the curfew.

“The curfew made me learn to live in a state of emergency for a period of time.”
