ISLAMABAD — Pakistan’s president and defense minister have tested positive for coronavirus, more than a week after the country’s premier contracted the virus.

Taking to Twitter, President Dr. Arif Alvi confirmed the report and called for prayers for all those who have been affected by the virus.

"I have tested positive for COVID-19. May Allah have mercy on all Covid affectees. Had 1st dose of vaccine, but antibodies start developing after 2nd dose that was due in a week. Please continue to be careful, the president tweeted.

Meanwhile, Governor Sindh Imran Ismail announced that Defense Minister Pervez Khattak has tested positive for the virus, wishing him a quick recovery.

On March 20, Prime Minister Imran Khan tested positive for COVID-19 after which he has been self-isolating himself. The premier was inoculated against the virus on March 18 — two days before he tested positive for the virus.

According to doctors, the vaccine did not have enough time to become effective, and that the prime minister may have contracted the virus a few days prior to developing symptoms for it.
