COVID-19 active cases top 5,000 for first time in many months as KSA records 556 new infections

RIYADH — Saudi Arabia on Tuesday recorded 556 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, marking the highest number of single-day infections in the Kingdom in many months.

According to the Ministry of Health, seven more people died from complications caused by COVID-19 over the past 24 hours.

This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 389,422 and the virus-related fatalities to 6,663.

The ministry also reported 410 recoveries over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 377,714.

The single-day infections in the Riyadh region topped the 200-mark for the sixth consecutive day after many months, with 228 new cases recorded on Tuesday.

The capital region was followed by the Eastern region with 93 cases and the Makkah region with 87 new infections.

The remaining cases were detected in other regions of the Kingdom with just four of them reporting less than 10 infections.

According to the ministry, there were 5,045 active cases and 694 of them were in critical condition.
