RIYADH —
A political settlement under the UN supervision is the only solution to the Syrian crisis, said Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Faisal Bin Farhan on Tuesday, Al Arabiya reported.

He called on Iran to stop its sectarian project aimed at changing the demography in Syria, stressing that the political settlement can only lead to the reconstruction of the war-hit country.

The Saudi foreign minister made the remarks during a virtual meeting of the fifth Brussels Conference to support the future of Syria and the region.

Recently, in a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, in Riyadh, the Saudi foreign minister had said that Saudi Arabia supports all efforts that can pave the way for Syria’s return to the "Arab fold."

"The Kingdom stresses the importance of the continued support for efforts aimed at resolving the Syrian crisis in a way that guarantees the security of the Syrian people and protects them from terrorist organizations and sectarian militias," Prince Faisal Bin Farhan said.

He added that "the settlement of the Syrian crisis requires a political solution and this is what Saudi Arabia," noting that this "is mainly due to the parties involved in the issue and it requires that the Syrian regime and the opposition agree on a political solution."

Prince Faisal Bin Farhan continued by saying: "We hope that the ongoing efforts will lead to solutions in this direction, and this country deserves to return to its Arab fold in order to have stability, peace and security, and we will support any efforts that seek to achieve it."
