Interior Minister: Traffic fatalities dropped 51% in recent years

RIYADH — Minister of Interior Prince Abdul Aziz Bin Saud Bin Naif said that there has been a drop of 34 percent in serious accident cases over the past years. “The number of traffic deaths also fell by 51 percent, reaching 13.5 deaths per 100,000 people from 28 deaths per 100,000 people earlier,” he said.

The minister said in a statement on his Twitter account that the Saudi government paid great attention to traffic safety and made it one of the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 coupled with institutional work among the relevant authorities to achieve this goal.

The minister added, “A higher degree of professionalism has contributed to achieving the efficiency of traffic control with optimal use of technology.

“With provision of maximum awareness and the best implementation of the systems, we will protect our society from human and material losses, while continuing to work on developing the traffic system in a way that achieves the safety and security of everyone.”
