The annual Hareed (Parrotfish) Festival kicked off in the Farasan Island in the southwestern region of Jazan. The traditional fishing festival starts every year when swarms of this pretty fish appear in the shallow waters in the Al-Hasis Beach close to the Farasan Island where the local people are waiting to hunt what they can of these fish.
The Hareed Festival is celebrated by the people of Farasan Islands in mid-April of every year. The festival has become a key tourist festival that lures both locals and tourists to the region. In previous years before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival was accompanied by folksongs and other cultural and heritage activities, including a contest for the best catcher of the fish — SPA
