60 kg of oud being used to perfume, fumigate Kaaba and Grand Mosque 10 times a day

MAKKAH — The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques is carrying out operations to perfume the Holy Kaaba and the Grand Mosque 10 times a day, using the finest and superior quality of perfumes and incenses.

As many as 40 cleaning workers, five polish workers, and nine supervisors are engaged in the work and one round of the works is completed within 20 minutes under the supervision of the presidency’s unit for perfume and incense at the Grand Mosque.


The unit uses the finest types of Oud such as Oud Sioufi, Clementan incense, and Maruki Double Super incense. It also fumigates the Grand Mosque with more than 60 incense burners and 60 kilograms of oud on a daily basis.

The perfuming work covers Hijr Ismail and its lanterns, the Shadirvan, which is the slanted structure covering three sides of the Kaaba, Al-Multazam, which is the space along the wall of Kaaba between the Black Stone and the door, Hajar Al-Aswad, Rukn Al-Yamani, and Maqam Ibrahim or the Station of Ibrahim, which is a glass and metal enclosure with an imprint of Prophet’ Ibrahim’s foot. The workers undertake to perfume 10 times a day in three shifts and polishing them once during daytime as well as once during nighttime.

The unit for perfume and incense at the Grand Mosque is keen to take great care of cleansing and perfuming the Grand Mosque and the Holy Kaaba without causing any inconvenience to Umrah pilgrims as well as to worshipers and visitors to Islam’s holiest shrine. It also facilitates them to perform their rituals with ease and comfort by smelling the fragrance of the highest quality perfumes.
