Foreign vehicles exceeding lifespan barred from entering Saudi Arabia

RIYADH — Saudi Arabia has started implementing the life expectancy requirement for foreign vehicles including taxis, buses, and trucks heading to Saudi territories via the Kingdom’s border crossing points, the Public Transport Authority PTA) announced on Monday.

The PTA said that vehicles that do not conform with the operational life requirement will not be allowed into the Kingdom. This is with the objective of raising the level of road safety.

The PTA said that the ban on the entry of vehicles that are older than their life expectancy into Saudi territories via the border crossing points began on April 4, 2021.

The PTA said that the implementation of the conditions on foreign vehicles will be as follows: taxis 5 years, buses 10 years, and trucks 20 years from the manufacturing date. The vehicle’s life expectancy will be calculated from the beginning of the year it was manufactured.
