ABU DHABI — The United Arab Emirates is considering introducing measures to restrict the movement of people who have not been inoculated against coronavirus, the country's National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority said on Tuesday.

In a statement on his Twitter handle on Tuesday, Dr. Saif Al-Dhaheri, the spokesman for the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority, said: "Strict measures are being considered to restrict the movement of unvaccinated individuals and to implement preventative measures such as forbidding entry to some places and having access to some services, to ensure the health and safety of everyone.”

“Your hesitation is proving to be an obstacle to our goals, putting your family, loved ones, and the community at risk. Receiving the vaccine will contribute to immunizing and protecting this community from this epidemic. The vaccine is our best means to recover and return to a normal life,” local media quoted Dr. Al-Dhaheri as saying on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the UAE recorded new 1,931 infections and two more deaths from complications caused by COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, according to a statement from the country's health ministry.

This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 502,791 and virus-related fatalities to 1,561.

The new patients, all of whom are in a stable condition, and are receiving the necessary care, were detected after the ministry conducted 191,886 additional COVID-19 tests over the past 24 hours, using state-of-the-art medical testing equipment, according to the ministry.

In the statement, the ministry stressed its aim to continue expanding the scope of testing nationwide to facilitate the early detection of coronavirus cases and carry out the necessary treatment.

The ministry expressed its sincere condolences to the family of the deceased and wished COVID-19 patients a speedy and full recovery, calling on all members of the society to cooperate with health authorities, adhere to the instructions, and physical distance to ensure the health and safety of all.

A total of 1,898 more patients recovered from the deadly virus, raising the total number of recoveries to 485,078, according to the statement.
