Critical cases top 1,200 as Saudi Arabia reports 1,098 new COVID-19 infections

RIYADH —
Single-day coronavirus cases neared the 1,100-mark on Friday for the first time in many months, with 1,098 new infections recorded over the past 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health.

The ministry announced 9 more deaths over the past 24 hours due to complications caused by the deadly virus.

This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 410,913 and the virus-related fatalities to 6,878.

The ministry also reported 1,205 recoveries over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 393,653.

The Riyadh region recorded the highest number of new cases with 454 followed by the Makkah region with 2446 and the Eastern region with 171 infections. The remaining cases were detected in other regions of the Kingdom.

According to the ministry, there were 9,660 active cases and 1,205 of them were in critical condition.
