MANAMA — A Bahraini police officer is being hailed for rescuing a young child who walked in front of a Ramadan cannon mere seconds before it fired on Sunday.

On Monday, Bahrain’s Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid Bin Abdullah Al-Khalifa honored policeman Fadhel Abdulameer Salman for rescuing the child, the Bahrain News Agency reported.

The Community Police personnel at the Northern Governorate Police Directorate rescued the small boy who wandered into a restricted area on Sunday evening.

The interior minister hailed the swift response, courage, preparedness of the policeman in dealing professionally with emergencies. He directed to further secure the Iftar canon area to protect the safety of people.

The minister urged the citizens and residents to follow general safety procedures and protect their children by following instructions.

The cannon is used every night during Ramadan to announce sunset prayers and the breaking of the daily fast.
