April 26, 2021

RIYADH — The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has achieved a significant advancement at the new global progress in the indicators of intellectual property rights and intellectual property protection, according to the Digital Competitiveness reports and the World Economic Forum.

The reports indicated that the Kingdom has surpassed more than 114 countries out of 141 on the Intellectual Property Protection Index, where it ranked 27th globally, moving 4 ranks from the year 2018, according to the 2019 report which has been issued recently.

Moreover, Saudi Arabia ranked 24th in the world for the year 2020 on the Intellectual Property Rights Index, where it jumped more than 10 ranks compared to the year 2019.

The National Center for Performance Measurement (Adaa) said that the Intellectual Property Rights Index is issued by the Institute for Management Development as one of the sub-indicators of the Digital Competitiveness Index.

It added that the intellectual property rights are concerned with registering and protecting the rights arising from any moral or innovative product such as trademarks, patents, copyrights, and design rights.

The Center ascribed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's progress to the leadership’s interest in supporting the intellectual property rights protection efforts.

It noted that it monitors the status of progress in services related to the intellectual property rights and protection index in a way that contributes to enabling decision-makers to develop the performance of government agencies. — SPA
