WASHINGTON — United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken has said that the Iranian-backed Houthi militia’s continued attacks on Yemen’s Ma’rib have caused “tremendous humanitarian consequences.”

The US secretary of state made the remarks on Monday on his Twitter account following a meeting with US Special Envoy to Yemen Tim Lenderking.

“Met with US envoy for Yemen today. The international community must ask itself why the Houthis are seeking a military solution to the conflict with their assault on Marib, despite the tremendous humanitarian consequences."

Lenderking, who made a back-to-back visit of the region recently, has returned to the US.

Earlier this month, he appeared for a hearing at the US Congress in which he Blasting Iran for perpetuating the crisis in Yemen and impeding ceasefire efforts in the war-hit country.

The US envoy also said that Iran's support for the Houthi militia is "quite significant and it's lethal" and there is no real evidence that Tehran wants to support a constructive resolution to the conflict.
