WASHINGTON — US Special Envoy for Yemen Tim Lenderking is visiting Saudi Arabia and Oman as part of the Biden administration’s efforts to put an end to the Yemeni conflict, the US Department of State said early Thursday in a press statement.

According to the statement, Lenderking will travel to Saudi Arabia and Oman on April 29 (Thursday), where he will hold meetings with senior government officials and work jointly with UN Special Envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths.

“US Special Envoy Lenderking’s discussions will focus on ensuring the regular and unimpeded delivery of commodities and humanitarian assistance throughout Yemen, promoting a lasting ceasefire, and transitioning the parties to a political process,” the statement read.

Earlier this week, the US special envoy for Yemen met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to apprise him about the efforts being made to resolve the Yemeni crisis.

Following his meeting with Lenderking on Monday, Blinken tweeted, saying: ““Met with US envoy for Yemen today. The international community must ask itself why the Houthis are seeking a military solution to the conflict with their assault on Marib, despite the tremendous humanitarian consequences."

The visit comes as the US seeks to garner global support against the Iranian-backed Houthi militia’s continued assaults on Yemen’s Ma’rib.

“The US Special Envoy will build on the international consensus to halt the Houthi offensive on Marib, which only worsens the humanitarian crisis threatening the Yemeni people,” the statement added.
