New cases in Saudi Arabia dip below 1,000-mark as recoveries surge

JEDDAH — Single-day COVID-19 cases dropped below the 1,000-mark for the first time on Sunday, after five consecutive days, with 937 new infections recorded over the past 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health.

The ministry announced 11 more deaths over the past 24 hours due to complications caused by the deadly virus.

This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 419,348 and the virus-related fatalities to 6,979.

The ministry also reported 1,120 recoveries over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 402,664.

The Riyadh region recorded the highest number of new cases with 381 followed by the Makkah region with 225 and the Eastern region with 110 infections.

The remaining cases were detected in other regions of the Kingdom with just two recording single digit cases.

According to the ministry, there were 9,705 active cases and 1,351 of them were in critical condition.
