New cases in Saudi Arabia cross 1,000-mark; recoveries steady

JEDDAH — Single-day COVID-19 cases crossed the 1,000-mark after staying in three digits for three straight days on Wednesday with 1,016 new infections recorded over the past 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health.

The ministry announced 12 more deaths over the past 24 hours due to complications caused by the deadly virus.

This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 422,316 and the virus-related fatalities to 7,018.

The ministry also reported 900 recoveries over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 405,607.

The Riyadh region recorded the highest number of new cases with 373 followed by the Makkah region with 279 and the Eastern region with 125 infections.

The remaining cases were detected in other regions of the Kingdom with two recording single digit cases.

According to the ministry, there were 9,691 active cases and 1,346 of them were in critical condition.
