DOHA — Qatar’s public prosecutor has ordered the arrest of the country’s finance minister, the Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported on Thursday.

After reviewing relevant documents reports, the attorney general ordered the arrest of the Minister of Finance Ali Sharif Al-Emadi for questioning him over misuse of public funds and abuse of power, according to the report.

The attorney general has ordered extensive investigations into crimes alleged in the documents.

The report did not provide other details about the investigation, and the nature of the case against Al-Emadi was not immediately clear.

Al-Emadi has been serving as the finance minister since 2013 and is a board member of Qatar Investment Authority, the country’s $300 billion sovereign wealth fund. — Agencies
