CAIRO — Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmad Aboul Gheit has denounced the Israeli occupation's displacement of the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood residents in East Jerusalem, calling on the international community to prevent this measure.

In a statement on Thursday, the secretary-general said that this measure violates the most basic Palestinian human rights and entrenches a system of apartheid in the occupied territories.

Aboul Gheit described these policies as irresponsible and reflect internal conflicts and narrow partisan interests.

Furthermore, he stressed the responsibility of the international community to exert pressure on Israel to prevent the forced displacement of Sheikh Jarrah's residents "before the situation descends into further escalation." — Kuwait News Agency
