RIYADH — Saudi Arabia's Royal Court, based on the report of the Supreme Court, said on Tuesday that Wednesday (May 12 ) will be the last day of the holy month of Ramadan and Thursday (May 13) will be the first day of Eid Al-Fitr.

In a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency, the Royal Court said: "The Supreme court said that following reports received from courts based on testimonies of those who are experts in the field that the moon of Shawal was not seen. Therefore, it has been decided that Wednesday 30/9/1442AH, according to Umm Al-Qura calendar, corresponding to May 12 is the last day of the holy month of Ramadan and that Thursday 1/10/1442AH, according to Umm Al-Qura calendar, corresponding to May 13 is the first day of Eid Al-Fitr."

The Supreme Court congratulated the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, the Crown Prince, all citizens, residents, and Muslims on the advent of the blessed Eid Al-Fitr.

Earlier, the moon-sighting committee said that the crescent of the month of Shawwal could not be sighted from the Tamir observatory as well as from the observatory of Majmaah University in Hautat Sudair.

Meanwhile, the Shawwal crescent was not sighted in all Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states on Tuesday, therefore, Wednesday (May 12) will be the last day of the holy month of Ramadan in all of the GCC countries.

The first day of Eid Al-Fitr will be celebrated across the GCC countries and most of the Arab countries on Thursday (May 13).
