Bahrain restricts access for unvaccinated for 2 weeks amid spike in COVID-19 cases

Introduces additional measures for travelers arriving from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal

MANAMA —
Bahrain’s top committee to deal with coronavirus has decided to restrict access to most public facilities to only those who have taken the required doses of a coronavirus vaccine and those who have recently recovered from the disease, the Bahrain News Agency reported on Thursday.

The move, which has come into force on Friday (May 21) and will continue until June 3, is prompted by the spike in new cases, with the country registering whopping 2,354 cases on Wednesday.

As part of the new measures, those who are unvaccinated or under the age of 18 cannot enter shopping malls, retail shops, with the exception of supermarkets, banks, pharmacies and hospitals, restaurants, cinemas, salons, etc., as well as service centers and government offices.

The committee has also put in place a number of additional measures for passengers arriving from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal, which are the following:

— Entry into Bahrain is restricted to holders of residence visas from these countries

— Passengers arriving from the aforementioned countries must quarantine for 10 days

— All arrivals from the mentioned countries are required to present a certificate confirming the result of a negative PCR test containing a QR code, no more than 48 hours before their arrival

— All arrivals must conduct a PCR test upon arrival, a second PCR test for arrivals who will stay in Bahrain for a period of more than 5 days, and a third PCR test ten days after the date of arrival for those who will reside in Bahrain for a period of more than 10 days.
