JEDDAH — Saudi Arabia joined the world on Friday in celebrating the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, which is held every year on May 21 to encourage dialogue among all civilizations and cultures based on respect and mutual understanding.
The Kingdom's participation in the global day is aimed at promoting convergence and openness to human cultures.
Saudi Arabia through its cultural ministry has been exerting efforts to serve culture and sustainable development in a way that achieves the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which seeks to preserve culture and cultural heritage and implement ambitious initiatives to develop the Saudi cultural sector.
The vision has set the development of culture as an essential part of its development goals.
The World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development provides an opportunity to deepen peoples' understanding of cultural diversity values and support the four objectives of the UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.
It also supports sustainable systems of cultural governance, achieves a balanced exchange of cultural goods and services, integrates culture into sustainable development programs and policies, and promotes human rights and fundamental freedoms.
