RABAT — The Muslim World League (MWL) Secretary-General and Chairman of the Association of Muslim Scholars Dr. Muhammad Al-Issa reiterated that the “Makkah Document” carries a message with an enlightened Islamic horizon undertaken by the nation’s scholars, signed in the holiest city in Islam by over 1,200 prominent Muslim scholars and 4,500 Islamic intellectuals from 139 countries and 27 Muslim schools of thought.

Al-Issa made these remarks while delivering a lecture in an international symposium titled "The Makkah Al-Mukarramah Document: Achievements and Prospects", organized by The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), in cooperation with MWL here in the Moroccan capital.

The MWL chairman reviewed the most prominent features of the document, stressing that it demonstrated where Islam stands as opposed to civilizational and human coexistence, and its position in general with a number of pressing contemporary issues.

He added that the document affirms the need to respect the existence of others and preserve their dignity and rights, with coexistence, partnership, and cooperation, pointing to the focus on the importance of effective religious and civilizational dialogue while underlining the document’s articles that point out the negativity of summoning the tragedies of history that are attributed to their owners and not Islam.

Dr. Al-Issa pointed to the document's keenness to develop Islamic societies, confront corruption, rationalize consumption and preserve the environment, and rationalize religious sentiment, especially among Muslim youth.

“The hijackers of some Muslim youth rely on unconscious emotion in order to achieve their goals. It is the responsibility of the family and the relevant governmental and civil institutions to raise educational awareness of the youth in order to immune them against these extreme ideologies,” he said.

He added that the Makkah Document filled an important void in the consensus of the scholars of the Islamic nation regarding pressing modern issues and that it demonstrated the distinction of those scholars by their ability to unify their word despite their great sectarian diversity.

For his part, the Director-General of ICESCO Dr. Salem Al Malik delivered a speech in which he praised MWL’s efforts in undertaking the concerns of the Islamic nation and the hopes of its generations and foreseeing the best for their future.

Meanwhile, the Assistant Secretary-General of the Muhammadan Association of Scholars in Morocco Dr. Ahmed Al-Senouni said the “Document's” guidelines and principles represent a source of inspiration at the individual and collective levels as it constitutes a humanitarian document in its goals and functional dimensions.

Dr. Khaled Al-Samadi, the head of the Moroccan Center for Educational Studies and Research, noted that the document corrected many misconceptions, established many values, and developed the skills of tackling the differences, while the rapporteur of the Kingdom of Morocco Academy, Dr. Mustafa Zabakh, described the document as a junction that the Islamic world and all humankind need in light of the turmoil and intellectual conflicts that the world is witnessing today. — SPA
