RIYADH — The Arab Coalition handed over a Yemeni child recruited by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia to the legitimate Yemeni government on Monday morning, the Saudi Press Agency reported citing a statement from the coalition’s spokesman.

The handover and repatriation procedures of the child recruit to the Yemeni government were attended by a representative of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) as well as representatives from the Saudi Red Crescent Authority, the Saudi Human Rights Commission, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center and coalition specialists.

In the statement, spokesman of the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen Brig. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki said that coalition forces have so far rehabilitated and repatriated a total of 147 Yemeni child recruits since the outbreak of the Yemeni conflict.

“Those children were recruited, exploited and thrown into battlefronts in the southern borders of the Kingdom by the terrorist Houthi militia. Such heinous acts are gross violations of the International Humanitarian Law and the Convention on the Rights of the Child,” the spokesman added.
