Record electricity load in Kuwait' s history registered Sunday

June 07, 2021

KUWAIT — The Kuwaiti Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy announced that the country's electricity consumption hit its all-time high level of 15,070 megawatts on Sunday, amid soaring summer heat crossing the threshold of 50 degrees Celsius.

The ministry said in a press statement that Sunday's electricity load is up 16.8 percent compared with the same day of last year, noting that the national grid still has a reserve margin of 15 percent.

The ministry predicted that the demand for electricity would keep rising in the upcoming days due to increasing high temperatures.

The ministry called on citizens and residents to reduce electricity consumption after registering a high record Sunday, which puts great pressure on the electricity system in the country. — KUNA
