KUWAIT CITY —
A number of people in Kuwait are infected with the Delta variant of coronavirus, which was first discovered in India, the Kuwait News Agency reported on Monday, citing a statement from the spokesman of the country's health ministry.

In the statement, the spokesman said that the ministry is conducting genetic examinations for the virus on regular basis to study patterns of the strains' spread in Kuwait and contribute to global efforts to combat the virus.

The Delta strain has been detected in more than 62 countries throughout the world.

With the emergence of new strains of the coronavirus in some countries, Kuwait's health minister swung into action and took a slew of precautionary measures, such as genetic planning by specialized technical teams to contain the pathogen, the spokesman said.

The spokesman once again called upon citizens and residents to take the standard precautions to cope with various forms of the virus mutations, underlining the need for being extra cautious. He also urged everyone to take the vaccine.
