MUSCAT — Oman’s health ministry on Monday recorded 2,529 new cases of coronavirus and 31 deaths over the past 24 hours, the Oman News Agency reported.

This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases in the Sultanate to 250,572 and virus-related fatalities to 2,741.

According to the ministry, 1,330 more people recovered over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 220,171.

The surge in COVID-19 infections continues despite the reintroduction of nighttime curfew.

As part of the new measures, which came into effect on Sunday (June 20) and will continue until further notice, no movement of people and vehicles is allowed between 8 p.m. until 4 a.m. and all commercial activities will remain suspended during the above-mentioned period.

The move, however, exempts some services that are considered to be essential.

Oman on Sunday also expanded its vaccination drive, targeting a new segment that includes people aged 45 and above in all governorates of the Sultanate.
