Saudi Arabia reports 1,479 new COVID-19 cases, highest in many months

RIYADH — Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Health recorded on Tuesday 1,479 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, the highest single-day infections in many months.

The ministry reported 12 more deaths over the past 24 hours due to complications caused by the virus.

This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 476,882 and the virus-related fatalities to 7,703.


The ministry also recorded 920 recoveries over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 458,048.

The Makkah region reported the highest number of new cases with 431, followed by the Riyadh region with 280, the Eastern region with 256, and the Asir region with 149 infections.


The remaining cases were detected in other regions of the Kingdom with just one of them reporting less than 10 infections.

According to the ministry, there were 11,131 active cases and 1,487 of them were in critical condition.
