Surge in COVID-19 cases, deaths continues in Oman amid vaccination campaign

MUSCAT — Oman's health ministry recorded on Wednesday 34 more coronavirus-related deaths and 2,047 new cases over the past 24 hours as the surge in new infections continues.

On Tuesday, Oman reported 41 deaths due to complications caused by the virus, marking the highest single-day fatalities since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country.

This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases and the death toll in the Sultanate to 254,656 and 2,816 respectively, according to the country’s health ministry.

The ministry added that 1094 new cases have recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 222,344.

The ministry also pointed out that 203 cases were hospitalized over the past 24 hours, as the total number of current hospitalized coronavirus-infected patients stands at 1531 and 445 out of them are in intensive care units.

Amid the spike in new cases and deaths, the ministry is continuing to vaccinate people aged 45 and above in all governorates of the Sultanate as part of the national campaign with vaccination centers witnessing large turnouts.
