Saudi leaders send condolences to Philippine president over death of former leader

RIYADH — Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman have sent separate cables of condolences and sympathy to President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte on the death of former President Benigno Aquino III, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported early Friday.

In their cables, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Crown Prince expressed their profound sadness and warm consolation to the Philippine President on the demise of the country's former president, extending sincere feelings of sympathy and condolence to the family of the deceased.

Former Philippine Aquino III died on Thursday at the age of 61.

Popularly known as "Noynoy," Aquino was the country's 15th president, serving from 2010 to 2016 following the death of his mother, former president and democracy icon Corazon Aquino.

He died at the Capitol Medical Center near the capital Manila.
