England outclasses Ukraine to make Euro 2020 semifinals

ROME — England totally outclasses Ukraine en route to a 4-0 win in the Euro 2020 quarterfinals in Rome on Saturday. Still no goals conceded, four goals scored on the day, England moves on to a semifinal date with Denmark. Spain and Italy complete the quartet.

The early goal from England captain Harry Kane, in the fourth minute, certainly set the tone, with England content to possess the ball and try to dissect the Ukraine defense in a decent 45 minutes that saw them go into the break with a 1-0 lead.

The fourth goal for England comes from Henderson, his first-ever goal for England. The Liverpool captain flew into the box to score England's fourth following a great delivery from Mount, leaving Henderson with a free header.

By scoring his first senior England goal on his 62nd cap, Henderson has ended the longest-ever wait by a player before scoring their first goal for the Three Lions. The previous record-holder was Sol Campbell, who scored his first in his 47th appearance.

Spain became the first team to book their place in the semifinals of Euro 2020 on Friday, and they were joined by Italy later that day.

La Roja advanced to the final four after beating Switzerland in a penalty shootout in Saint Petersburg, following a 1-1 draw in which Luis Enrique's side took the lead through a Denis Zakaria own goal before a mix-up between Aymeric Laporte and Pau Torres gave the Swiss the chance to equalize.

In Friday's late kick off, the Azzurri beat Belgium, the ranked No.1 team in the world, 2-1 in Munich after goals from Nicolo Barella and Lorenzo Insigne to set up a mouth-watering clash between two of Europe's biggest footballing nations: Italy and Spain.

The semifinal clash will take place at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday, July 6, at 21:00 CEST.

On Saturday, Denmark booked their place in the Euro 2020 semifinals with a 2-1 win over the Czech Republic as goals from Thomas Delaney and Kasper Dolberg were enough to see the Danes into the last four. — Agencies
